How to use our Charts?
With our charts you can easily switch from trading separate
stocks, and begin making more profitable trades with index shares. Try them for FREE.
|
With
MarketVolume's Alerts you can set levels for either the Volume
Moving Average (VMA) or the Index where when the VMA or the
Index reaches that level, you are notified immediately of that
event with a audio alert.
The MV Alerts can be an invaluable tool for
investors who are too busy to keep track of our charts all the
time. With MV Alerts you just need to set them and let the
computer do the rest! |
MarketVolume™
has three different groups of indicators for use with our
JavaVolume™ Charts. These are the exchange volume, index
volume, and MarketVolume (MV) select indicators. From this
menu, you can access any of our indicators, depending on your
access level.
With the 'New Chart' item, you can open a
new chart with the exact same settings and period of the chart
you are viewing. |
From
this list box you can choose which period to view our charts
in. Since we have an intraday history dating back to 1997, we
have created several data sets ranging from 1 minute ticks to
60 and 3 day ticks. Remember, the more data you see in the
chart, the more data is represented per tick. |
This
has to be one of the most important tools for our indicators.
This is where you select the moving average period to apply to
the volume. Normally, volume can be somewhat turbulent, you
may see spikes here and there due to some large trades. With
the volume moving average (VMA) you can smooth out those
fluctuations, that way you can see where the general direction
of the volume is going (i.e. increasing or decreasing).
Generally when an index decreases and a
volume moving average increases at the same time, you can
expect a reversal in the index at the point when the volume
begins to decrease again. The same is true for when an index
is increasing.
Be careful! You should not set the volume
moving average too high or too low, as you with either smooth
out the volume too much, or it will become too erratic. For
example, on a 5 day chart, a 60 minute VMA works best, and for
a 1 day chart, a 30 minute VMA works well. |
From
the view menu you can change many aspects of how you see our
JavaVolume™ charts.
Averaged Volume & Summed Volume are
ways in which you can see the volume data. Averaged Volume is
set by default and only applies to periods of 5 days or more.
Averaged Volume always based on one-minute volume ticks, and
means that when you are viewing a 5 day chart (5 minute bars
or ticks) that each volume bar is the AVERAGE volume of FIVE
one minute ticks, or on a 15 day chart (15 minute ticks), each
volume bar represents the average of 15 minutes of volume.
Summed Volume uses the same principles as averaged volume, but
here we just add the one minute volume ticks together, we do
not average them out.
MarketVolume™ offers the standard charting
methods used to display the index. When you select Bar
you will se the standard OPEN, HIGH, LOW, CLOSE points on the
index. Line is simply the closing point of the index,
and percent displays what percent the index has moved
up or down. |
We
offer the two most popular methods of charting an Index Moving
Average. We have a simple moving average and an exponential
moving average. Both of these moving averages vary depending
on what you enter as a period. Remember that a period
represent a bar, and when you set a 20 period moving average
it means a 20 bar moving average. |
From
the help menu you can access our charts help pages, email our
support department, or see information about the JavaVolume™
Charting applet itself. |
| Displayed here are the current
settings of the chart, which are set from the
View Menu. |
| With the zoom buttons you can
zoom from 2 hours all the way to 5 years on any of our
indicators. You can also use the +/- keys, or the PageUp/PageDown
keys on your keyboard. |
| In this box you see
up-to-the-minute information for the current indicator. This
information includes the Volume Moving Average, the index's
last closing value, and the change in the index since opening. |
| You can always see the period
you are in by looking at this section, it works for all
charts, in real time, or in historical mode. |
| The volume that you see on any
of our charts is the COMBINED volume of all of the stocks for
that indicator. If it is an exchange indicator, then it the
the combined volume for ALL of the stocks listed in that
exchange. If it is an index indicator, the it is the combined
volume for ALL of the stocks listed in that index. Our MV
Select indicators are the combined volume of stocks which we
have specifically chosen to represent different industries and
sectors of the market. |
| These scroll buttons become
visible when you zoom out to a period of 15 days or more. They
are also visible when zoomed into 1 and 5 days where it is not
the current data. With these buttons you can navigate through
our indicator history stretching back to 1997. By navigating
our history you will be able to see how our volume indicators
worked in the past, and apply that knowledge to the future. |
| The cursor is by default
turned off. To display the cursor, just click anywhere in the
charting area. Information for the selected point (the bar
under the cursor) is displayed in the
information bar
at the bottom of the chart and the
date/time of the
point is displayed under the date/time scale. You can turn the
cursor on and off by using the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard. When the cursor is off, all information displayed in
the information boxes at the bottom of the chart is in real
time. |
| This is the index for the
selected indicator. In the case of our MV Select indicators,
we have coupled the volume data for our select indicators with
the most appropriate index. |
| This is the scale for the
volume. Depending on how high the volume for the selected
indicator is, this is scaled in the thousands (K), millions
(M) or billions (B). |
| This is the date and time of
the point which has been selected with the
cursor. If there is no point selected (i.e., the
cursor is turned off), the information
is the based on the last available data. |
| Here you can see the precise
volume, volume moving average, open, high, low, close, and
index moving average data for the selected point, which has
been selected with the cursor. |
| Here you see what the date /
time of the chart periods is. |
| The index scale is never
reduced into thousands (K), the information you see here is
always the precise value. |
